PREPARING FOR MULTIPLES

This class is often paired with:

Breastfeeding Essentials  |  Safety in the First Year

Many aspects of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period may look different for families of multiples.  Preparing for Multiples helps families better understand the pregnancy and birthing process of twins, triplets or more.  This comprehensive class discusses stages of labor and delivery, relaxation and breathing techniques, labor coping skills, and postpartum issues and will prepare expectant families for the possible variances in pregnancy, labor, delivery and recovery in the multiples birth process.

In addition, the class addresses issues exclusive to parenting multiples such as traveling logistics, breastfeeding, and life with more than one baby at home.

Topics addressed include:

  • Healthy pregnant life-styles through sound nutrition, rest, and stress-management techniques

  • Nutrition and weight gain

  • Aches and discomforts of pregnancies and possible remedies

  • Emotional and physical challenges of twin/triplet pregnancy

  • Relaxation, visualization and positions for laboring

  • Dealing with potential bedrest

  • Pregnancy complications warning signs, and current methods of treatment

  • Tests used to monitor multiple pregnancies

  • True labor versus practice labor

  • Induction methods

  • Comfort measures during labor: natural comfort techniques, analgesics, and other pain medication options

  • Vaginal and Cesarean birth processes

  • Premature babies and the NICU experience

  • Postpartum recovery and changes

  • Practical skills for managing your life at home with multiple newborns (breastfeeding, bonding, getting out of the house)

Childbirth is a normal, natural process, but it is also different for every woman and couple. This class explores the joys and challenges of labor with multiples, and also empowers parents with information and tools to prepare them for the experience of childbirth, regardless of what their experience may be. In this balanced, down-to-earth, non-judgmental class, each individual’s desire for their birth is honored and celebrated.
