Balance Baby (18 mon-2.5 years)
This introductory class is designed for young gymnasts who still require the accompaniment of his/her parent out on the mats. This class is designed with the same obstacle courses and instruction as other preschool classes but children are assisted at each station by his/her parent.
TARGET SKILLS FOR BALANCE BABY:
1. Climbing Ladders
2. Crawling through tunnels
3. Jumping with 2 feet together
4. Bear Walks (hands and feet crawling)
5. Galloping
6. Walking across low balance beam (sideways)
7. Jumping off of an elevated surface (1-2 feet high) together
8. Forward roll down an incline mat
9. Donkey Kick on mat (mini-handstand)

Meet the Instructor: Ann Marie
Ann Marie is a Stott-Pilates trained instructor, certified through the Advanced level, with special training in pre and postnatal exercise. Additionally, she has over 10 years of experience teaching movement to children, including as Director of Preschool Gymnastics at two different recreational programs. She holds a B.A. from Antioch College and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with a minor in Child and Youth Care. She has worked with young children in day care, after school programs, shelters, group homes and schools. In addition to the clear physical benefits, Ann Marie believes that sports and movement help children develop confidence and self awareness, gives them an expressive emotional outlet, and opens them to connections with others. Ann Marie is passionate about both children and movement, and loves to share the spontaneous joy that occurs when the two are combined. A mother of a three year old, she is a Boston native and lives in Brookline.
